History of Chinese 8-Ball

2006-2007

  • In August, the first JOY Eight Ball Ranking Tournament was held in Beijing. It was the first professional Chinese Eight Ball event.

  • Four matches of the first JOY Eight Ball Ranking Tournament were held in Beijing, Shenyang, Changchun, and Beijing.

  • Taiwan billiard star Li Boxian, was the first international billiard player to attend the Chinese Eight Ball Ranking Tournament in Shenyang.

2007-2008

  • From June 2007 to May 2008, three matches of the second JOY Chinese Eight Ball Ranking Tournament was held in Yantai, Shenyang, Hohhot.

  • In May, the second JOY Eight Ball Ranking Tournament was held in Hohhot. It was the first Chinese Eight Ball match to be held in venue capable of hosting ten thousand people.

  • In July, the third JOY Eight Ball Ranking Tournament was held in Xinxiang. The public welfare tournament was held to benefit victims of the Wenchuan Earthquake.

  • From July to December 2008, three matches of third JOY Eight Ball Ranking Tournament was held in Xinxiang, Qingdao, Shizuishan.

2009

  • In March, the Multi-ball Games Administrative Centre of General Administration of Sport of China designated JOY Eight Ball Ranking tournament a unique national Chinese Eight Ball Match, the highest level of competition.

  • In May, JOY Billiards signed Chinese Eight Ball stars ChenQiang and ShiXin. These were the first contracted players of Chinese Eight Ball.

  • From May 2009 to February 2010 national  Eight Ball Ranking Tournaments were held in Jiaozuo, Beijing, and Shengfang.

2010

  • In January, the first professional HD video team especially for Chinese eight ball was founded in Qinhuangdao, allowing Chinese eight ball matches to be viewed globally online.

  • In July, an event was held in Wenzhou for the women players of Chinese eight ball.

  • From July 2009 to June 2011, national Eight Ball Ranking Tournament were held in Wenzhou, Ordos, and Dalian.

2011

  • In June, JOY signed Chinese eight ball stars Ma Zhiyu, WangYan and WangPeng.

2012

  • In February, JOY signed Stephen Hendry -- the Billiards Emperor. 

  • National Chinese Eight Ball Ranking Match was upgraded to World Chinese Eight Ball Masters.

  • From June to September, Englon Automobile partnered with JOY to hold the largest scale commercial billiard matches— Englon-Joy Cup, Hendry Chinese Eight Ball Challenge Match. It toured around Baotou, Beijing, Shenyang, Yinchuan, Zhengzhou, Xi'an, Jinan,Tianjin, Hohhot, Shizuishan,  Xiangyang, Baoding, Yanji, Puyang, Lanzhou, Benxi, Harbin and more.

  • From June to December, JOY signed Ralf Souquet and Kelly Fisher respectively.

  • In November, JOY signed Chinese eight ball stars Shi Hanqing and ChenQiang.

  • In December, the World Chinese Eight Ball Masters partnered with CCTV-5 to broadcast Chinese Eight Ball on television for the first time. The JOY Q8 model (QS011-9) was designated as the Official Table for the first CCTV-5 World Chinese Eight Ball Masters.

  • From April to December, ten qualifier stations and one final qualifier station were held in Changchun, Lanzhou, Benxi, Changsha, Shuozhou, Wuhan, Harbin, Pujiang, Beijing and Qinhuangdao.

2013

  • In January, the first World Chinese Eight Ball Masters was held in Qinhuangdao  Olympic Sports Center. Top international and national billiard players competed on the international stage for the first time.

  • In February, JOY signed the champion of the World Chinese Eight Ball Masters, Gareth David Potts. Chinese Eight Ball is deeply influenced by Potts Break, Potts Cue and other technical terms named after him.

  • From May to October, Hendry Chinese Eight Ball challenge matches toured around Hohhot, Beijing, Datong, Liupanshui, Langfang, Anshan, Suzhou, Gongyi and more.

  • From August to November, Gareth Potts Chinese Eight Ball Challenge matches  toured around Beijing, Changchun, Xinxiang, Hengshui, Shizuishan and more.

  • From May to December, four qualifier stations and 1 final qualifier station of second World Chinese Eight Ball Masters was held in Shangrao, Anshan, Suzhou, Changchun, and Langfang.

2014

  • In January, the invitation match of second Chinese Eight Ball Masters was held in Olympic Sports Center of Qinhuangdao.

  • In January, a New Year celebration match of Chinese Eight Ball toured around Jilin, Shuangyang, Siping, Jiaozhou, Changchun, Cangzhou, Yanan.

  • In October, a total of 368 players took part in World Chinese Eight Ball Masters (Beijing Station), a new record of Chinese Eight Ball.

  • In November, JOY signed the live broadcast cooperation agreement of 2015-2017 with CCTV Sports & Entertainment, to live broadcast a Chinese Billiard tournament.

2016

  • In October, JOY signed Shane Van Boening.
